Use This “Headsetter” For Good Head Position

This “Headsetter” Helps Your Horse Learn Good Head Position

Easily teach your horse to work with a
low head and level top-line

Watch This Video To See How To Adjust And Use The HeadSetter

Many trainers use this piece of equipment to teach their horse good head position while stopping, rolling back, working cattle etc. Especially useful when the horse is in the process of learning to work in a curb bit.

It’s designed to help lower the horse’s poll. When used properly, the Headsetter encourages the horse to work with a low head and level top-line.

Unlike a tie-down, this Headsetter works mainly on the horse’s poll. A horse can comfortably carry his head in a “natural” position.

Made of 3/16″ hard-twist, nylon/poly rope with braided rawhide buttons.

The sliding nose-piece only comes into affect when the horse’s nose is raised way too high.

Be aware, this is the ONLY headsetter on the market designed to work like this.

Cheap copy-cat headsetters are NOT made the same as this one.

This professional-quality headsetter comes with a fully adjustable, nylon tie-down strap with a stainless steel snap.

Note: Headsetter goes on the horse’s head first, then the bridle goes on over it.

    Larry,
Can the tie down portion to the saddle be removed (and then put back on again for training), so that I could use this as a get down along with a get down rope for my ranch versatility training and showing? I have a wonderful little cutter turned versatility horse and he is learning to hunt the level profile and collect. Thanks. I really get a lot out of your instruction style.

I’m not sure I understand your question.
      Can you reword it?

Can the headsetter be used with a mechanical hackamore? We have a horse that simply works better in the hackamore than he does in a curb bit.

Hi Larry, I love my headsetter . The only concern I have is that when I’m lunging my horse with it on sometimes he puts his head so low I’m afraid that his foot will get caught in the tiedown portion, The part that ties to the girth . If I was riding him I could pull his head up but it could happen so fast when I’m riding that his foot gets in it.

      Hi Grace,
Yes, it’s a good training aid.

So if your horse puts his head too low when lunging… simply don’t use it when you’re lunging.

    Hi Larry,
Tack question for you: I have a seven yr old gelding that I have worked with since he was two. No matter what we have done with him, he wants to carry his head up in your face, hollowing out his back. I have worked with him endlessly using “long and low” techniques that have worked well with other horses, but he will only drop his head for a moment, then it pops back up and he can scoot out from underneath you. Would I be better off with the head setter or the german martingale, or can I use both together. Any other tips would be appreciated. I really like this horse for reasons I cannot explain but he is not going to excel with anything if he won’t carry himself better.

      Hi Linda,
As far as your problem goes, it doesn’t matter which piece of equipment you use.
The INSTANT your horse pops his head up, you must IMMEDIATELY put it back down.
If this means repeating it 20 times… you do it 20 times.
Each additional repetition, you should INCREASE the pressure and be more DEMANDING.
Soon, he’ll want to keep his head in good position.

I have a horse that is 15. He was started western pleasure and the last owners bought for their kids. For the last few years….he has been allowed to walk over them and rides with his head high. Should I try headsetter and if so…which bit should I purchase? Also, can I get bit from you? Thank you again for your help.
