This was wonderful. Are there any other quiz questions that deal with the confirmation of a horse, temperament, Stallions, Mares. This gave my little group a chance to see that learning can be fun and important to become a good horseman. Thank you very much Trocha ,

Read an article recently that stated a possible cause of club foot is because of young horses getting too much protein in their diet when growing allowing them to grow too fast. They recommended grass hay for colts. What say you? This is pertaining to question number 8 which I missed because of reading this article.

If that was true, there would be a bunch of horses walking around with club feet… which there aren’t.

Hi Mark, I think your key words are “Too Much” protein. As in all things, Everything in balanced moderation. But, while a youngster is still growing we need to accommodate for that growth by giving them a little extra. Just my opinion : )

I have a question not related to the quiz – if you were looking for a top colt to train for the reined cow horse event what direction would you point someone to? Ranchers, breeders etc.? Also how much would you expect to pay? Would you look for a mare, gelding or stallion? If it was for your own personal horse.

Personally, I look for distressed owners wanting to sell… or breeders.
I would expect to pay as little as possible but price is usually relative to looks, breeding etc.
I would buy ANY sex if I felt it had the potential to be a winner.
As a side note, I would leave the choice of picking the horse to a top professional who has a track record of picking winners. Barring pure luck, anybody else is simply guessing and seldom knows what to look for (although everybody thinks they are an expert at picking horses).

Well, I aced it! Even a blind squirell finds a nut every now and then. I did “guess” on a few of these questions. It was fun, Thanks!

Thank you for the quiz. I need to polish up on my American knowledge and my general info.
But I learn’t something new today.
Have a great day
