Michael,

           Hi Im not a certified trainer, but I do know that a horse needs to respect you. Ive had some doozey's my self, which I belive makes you a better rider. when your horse rears, wright when you feel it, you should step down instantly, take your split reins and slap his front legs with them, repeat as much as you half too. This has always worked for me. hope this helps.

You are correct. I misread the passage. I read it two more times before I realized YOU were being facetious. Red font, bold type, all caps, practically screams PAY ATTENTION TO THIS. Such a statement (the whomping part) seemed uncharacteristic of a man with your level of horsemanship to recommend, which is why I asked.

@Lil Morgan: No I didn't.

Few things are more irritating than somebody who casually skims the instruction and gets it wrong.

Why bother reading?

@Tom Boyle: Hi Tom. You posted an excellent comment here.

I just hope people take your warning to heart.

It's been my experience, most novice horse owners won't heed your (or my) advice.

I've tried and tried to help people who were destined for the hospital emergency room, only to have them tell me I'm wrong and they know what they're doing.

Next thing you know, they have a broken arm or broken ribs.

When they get out of the hospital, they avoid me like the plague for fear of having to eat crow.

They don't realize, the next wreck they have could kill them.

Having a training stable for 30 years, plus this website, has given me a very wide perspective of human behavior in relation to horsemanship.

I gotta tell you... overall it's a pretty sad picture.

Take care Tom and thanks for contributing.
