i have a tipical tb, he wants to do everything fast and has a high head set, ive had him about a year but most of this time hes been lame so lost alot of his muscle structure, im trying to slow him down and make him become more balanced, but this is proving to be difficult, i have how ever managed him to slow him down in trot to make him do a nice trot that i can sit too, but hes not collected, he has a slow trot or an extended trot, and canter, well its more like a gallop, he will allow you to play with his bit and will eventually put his head down with pressure, but as soon as this pressure is released his heads comes straight back p at him, im not wanting him to be this amazing dressage horse, im 16 and i just want him to look good at shows, thanks

@Cory Burns: Hi Cory. The only time something like this happens is when the foundation training isn't right.

Plus, the more you cause your horse to run off, the harder this will be to correct.

And to tell you the truth, once really bad stuff like this happens... the horse's mouth is never as good as it could have been.

My advice is to go back and put the correct foundation training on your horse and try to repair the damage that's been done.

Good luck.

@Karen: Hi Karen, Yes, I do have a suggestion. Don't go asking for outside advice until your trainer says he needs it.

There are many different ways to train a horse.

If your trainer has proven himself competent, give him a chance to get the job done.

Nothing is worse than an owner who's a back-seat driver.

If things aren't looking better in a month or two, then you may want to change course.

Good luck,
